The Parental Nutrition (PN) specialist nursessafely care for all home PN patients and inpatients in BRHC.

The PN service covers Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN) patients and inpatients on PN as part of the Nutrition Support Team (NST). The role is hospital based with some community outreach and teaching.

The PN specialist nurses work closely with the Dieticians, Pharmacists and Paediatric Gastroenterology team to review patients receiving PN and make appropriate management plans for them.

The specialist nurses are PN experts who educate the nursing team in hospital. Education is a huge part of the job, and the nurses do sessions for all teams, line care is an integral part of this. The education they provide is tailored to outcomes from the PN governance group and is an essential part of ensuring safe administration of PN in the hospital.

Main duties of the job

Working in a busy office the successful applicant will be required to have excellent communication skills and have a sound knowledge of paediatric parental nutrition. The successful candidate will need to work within a team but also to work autonomously.

You will be able demonstrate the ability to communicate at all levels and function efficiently using own initiative as needed. Key elements include good customer service skills, a good telephone manner, IT skills, problem solving and excellent organizational ability.

You must be able to work flexibly and portray a safe, friendly and efficient service at all times and willing to be the first point of contact for enquiries from patients, relatives and other professionals. Working as part of a team is central, as is experience of working with complex health needs.
