To support the education, training and development of clinical and non-clinical staff within the Childrens Directorate. Working collaboratively with MDT, coordinating and deliver learning opportunities that meet individual, service and organisational needs, ensuring staff develop the knowledge, skills and competencies required to provide safe, high-quality care. Key responsibilities include assessing learning and development needs, identifying skills gaps, delivering training, supporting competency assessments, and providing educational support in practice. Support workforce development through the implementation of training needs analyses, management of study leave, maintenance of training records and production of relevant reports. Work alongside clinical leaders to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of education, ensuring learning translates into improved patient care and professional practice. The Clinical Educator promotes a positive learning culture, supports staff to become supervisors and mentors, and contributes to quality improvement, audit and research activities. They also support the delivery of core skills training and work with organisational leads to develop and deliver education in specialist areas, patient safety, clinical skills, simulation and resuscitation. Overall, the role provides leadership and expertise in education and workforce development, helping to ensure a competent, confident and future-ready workforce across the Childrens Directorate.

The role involves identifying learning needs, assessing competence, addressing skills gaps and delivering education to support workforce development. Key responsibilities include coordinating training programmes, supporting induction, preceptorship and mentorship, developing and reviewing competency-based learning resources, and providing educational support in practice. The post holder evaluates learning outcomes, maintains training records, manages study leave and provides reports on educational activity. Working closely with clinical leaders, the Clinical Educator contributes to training needs analysis, quality improvement, audit and research activities. They support the delivery of core skills training and specialist education programmes, helping staff develop the knowledge, skills and confidence required to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care to children and young people.

To support education and training to the Childrens Directorate nursing team in order to deliver excellent patient care through having the right staff trained in the right skill at the right time.
In conjunction with the Childrens Directorate Clinical Education Lead, liaise with relevant staff within the Childrens Directorate to analyse the training needs. The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively across boundaries, both internally and externally for the benefit of neonatal, children and young peoples care and staff development, sharing areas of expertise and best practice. Deputise for the Directorate Clinical Educator Lead as required. To role model and uphold high practice care standards through education and training.
Demonstrating advanced communication skills, the post holder will be expected to liaise effectively with all key members of the multi-disciplinary and professional teams. The post holder will support multi-professional practice and learning across the organisation. Contribute to the development of a skilled professional workforce and facilitate a range of education, training and learning opportunities in the clinical environments. The Clinical Educator will plan, organise and co-ordinate training for the Childrens Directorate. He/she will ensure that both individual staff and service needs are met and comply with organisational training and development objectives. Provide assessments of individual learning and development needs in conjunction with the National Skills Framework. Provide educational support to staff in practice where the need has been identified, assessing their competency by utilising action plans and a structured approach. Identify any skills gaps and provide training sessions to meet the needs of individual staff and give appropriate feedback on progress/difficulties of staff to the line managers. To lead and influence education, training and development of clinical and non-clinical workforce to provide progressive development opportunities in relation to competence and skills attainment across the Childrens Directorate. Assist in the review & updating of competency training packs & assessment packs ensuring completion of specific measurable objectives. Be engaged with all of the multi-professional learners across education, including the development of education packages for new and emerging roles e.g. Nursing Associates, Physicians Associates. Support the Childrens Directorate Clinical Education Lead in implementing quality measures across the educational pathway. Assist in the delivery of a structured, competency based induction & training programme for new staff to the clinical area ensuring a system of preceptorship & mentorship is fully utilised. Meet all new healthcare professionals allocated to the ward/department areas within the first few weeks & assess their training needs. Discuss required education & training with the individuals line manager. Utilise effective methods of assessment, evaluation and impact of competence in clinical education. To manage all study leave within the Study Leave Policy. Maintain accurate and up to date records of learning events both formal and informal and provide relevant reports to the Directorate Management Team monthly. Participate in audit and research relating to training and education.
Support the delivering and monitoring of education / training requirements for all the nursing team within the Childrens Directorate. Support the delivery of specific topics (with support from the organisational lead) for all the nursing team staff within the Directorate. Assess, monitor and seek to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care including the assessment of knowledge and skills of staff working in the Directorate. Support other Directorates Clinical Educators in relation to practices concerning children and young people. Create a supportive learning environment and develop a culture of learning. Support staff to become supervisors, mentors and buddies for appropriate learners within the Division.
Work with the Directorate education lead, matron, senior sisters/ charge nurse in the development of a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis (TNA) for all nursing team staff. Support the delivery or commissioning of the education requirements identified in the TNA. Support the Identification of the training requirements for the directorate in patient safety, human factors, clinical skills, simulation and resuscitation in liaison with the Clinical Skills, Simulation and Resuscitation Manager. Work with organisational leads on specialist topic areas which need a strategy around training and education of staff. Support workforce development and evaluation especially around educational development and support.
