Job summary

Sharpak Aylesham is seeking a Packing Desk Operative for night shifts to support the Packing Desk between production and despatch. You will carry out warehousing duties, ensuring quality and safe handling of products through the packing and despatch process.

The role is permanent, 10pm–6am, at Sharpak Aylesham in Aylesham, with a competitive hourly rate of £12.71 and enhanced night allowances. Join a growing plastics packaging manufacturer providing robust, local and global service.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Stack pallets on the packing belt safely and consistently.
• Check quality on full pallets and ensure correct wrapping for transport.
• Apply correct pallet labels and verify colleague work.
• Operate PPT, hand pallet truck, and scanners safely.
• Monitor metal detection malfunctions and file near-miss reports if observed.
• Ensure a steady supply of new pallets for the Packing Desk area.
• Follow company policies to keep the Packing Desk running smoothly.
• Maintain a clean, safe Packing Desk area.
• Undertake other duties as needed.

Role Purpose

As part of the Packing Desk team, the aim of the role is to support a smooth, efficient and high quality service as the 'link' between the Production and Despatch departments. The role holder is required to undertake a range of general warehousing duties and follow company procedures, working to a high standard of health and safety, to ensure the product is sent to customers in a professional and safe way.

10pm - 6am (£12.71 per hour + enhanced shift allowance for nights)

Key Responsibilities

• Stack pallets with boxes from the packing belt, ensuring that the products are consistent on each pallet, and stacked safely;
• Check box quality on full pallets, and wrap correctly to ensure safe transportation through the warehouse and to the customer;
• Responsible for checking and adhering the correct pallet labels to the appropriate pallet and double-checking the work of others;
• Safe operation of Powered Pallet Truck (PPT), hand pallet truck, hand scanners, and other such equipment as necessary to the role;
• Awareness of metal detection system malfunctions, including completion of near-miss forms if metal detection or box damage is observed;
• Provide an adequate supply of new pallets in the Packing Desk area to ensure a smooth and continuous service;
• Follow company policy and procedures at all times to support the effective running of the Packing Desk;
• Responsible for providing a safe working environment by keeping the Packing Desk area clean and tidy;
• Undertake such other duties that are deemed reasonable and commensurate with the role according to business needs.

Experience/Skills

• Experience of working in a similar role within a high-volume manufacturing, FMCG or fresh produce environment would be advantageous;
• Team worker with a flexible approach to the role and others;
• A hands-on approach to the role with a keen eye for detail;
• Positive working attitude when working alone or within a team.
