Job summary

FMCG executive network is seeking a Packaging Technologist for a manufacturing site near Winsford. The role focuses on delivering packaging concepts from briefs and guiding projects through to production approval.

You will coordinate trials with suppliers and internal teams, manage artwork and print readiness, and support cost-saving packaging optimisation while ensuring compliance with BRC standards.

Qualifications

• Packaging Technology degree or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years' FMCG experience.
• Concept-to-launch development with UK retailers.
• Proven project management skills.
• Ability for blue-sky thinking.

Responsibilities

• Generate new packaging in response to briefs from the NPD team.
• Provide a detailed brief to chosen suppliers and drive the project to production approval.
• Arrange and oversee packaging trials onsite and with suppliers, including pre-production trials.
• Organise and report on transit trials where required.
• Manage pre-artwork meetings and coordinate with Marketing for feasible designs.
• Oversee the artwork process with Technical, Marketing and NPD to hit print deadlines.
• Attend packaging print runs for approval and ensure printers meet requirements.
• Approve packaging on first delivery and perform QC checks.
• Maintain packaging and pallet specifications and originate new ones as needed.
• Create and allocate bar codes and resolve scanning issues.
• Handle packaging complaints with suppliers and implement corrective actions.
• Design and manage in-house labels and development of software used.
• Run cost-saving and packaging optimisation projects.
• Provide packaging information for customer specs and weight reporting.
• Manage supplier specification systems to keep both parties satisfied.

Packaging Technologist

Our client is seeking an experienced Packaging Technologist to join their manufacturing site near Winsford.

Responsibilities as Packaging Technologist

• As a Packaging Technologist you will generate new packaging in response to briefs from the new product development team.
• Provide a detailed brief to chosen suppliers, liaise with internal departments, and take the project through to operational approval.
• Arrange and oversee packaging trials onsite and at suppliers including pre-production trials and report on the outcome.
• Organise transit trials where required and report on the outcome.
• Manage pre-artwork meetings and work with marketing to ensure designs are achievable.
• Manage artwork process with Technical, Marketing and NPD to ensure artworks are completed in time for print.
• Attend packaging print runs for approval where necessary or ensure printers know what they need to achieve.
• Approve packaging on first delivery and perform periodic QC checks
• Maintain all the packaging and pallet specifications and originate any new specifications as required.
• Manage the creation and allocation of bar codes and deal with scanning issues.
• Handle packaging complaints with suppliers and implement corrective action whilst maintaining the non-conformance information to enable reports at any time.
• Design and manage in house printed labels as well as development of software used.
• Run cost saving and packaging optimisation projects.
• Work with the technical department and sales to provide packaging information for customer specs and packaging weight reporting.
• Manage projects with our customers updating their specification systems, using their artwork management systems and ensuring where possible both parties are happy with packaging suppliers and materials used.
• Plan and execute regular audits with our suppliers.
• Work with technical department to ensure compliancy to BRC legislation, BRC audits and other customer audits.
• Maintain & develop packaging related documents within the QMS

Requirements as Packaging Technologist

• Packaging Technology degree or equivalent
• A minimum of 2 Years experience in FMCG environment
• Concept to launch development experience with UK retailers
• Project management skills
• An ability for true blue sky thinking
• Show good strong influencing skills at all levels
