Job summary

Reed Specialist Recruitment is seeking a Packaging Technologist in Seaham, United Kingdom. This full-time, site-based role focuses on developing and refining packaging processes, coordinating redesigns for SKUs, and supporting NPD through timely trials on site.

You will work closely with QA and operations to resolve day-to-day packaging issues, manage timelines, and build supplier relationships while ensuring compliance and optimal packaging performance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Food Manufacturing with packaging qualification.
• Significant experience in NPD packaging.
• Experience managing packaging projects and timelines.
• Strong problem-solving for packaging development (quality, cost, legal).
• Excellent interpersonal skills and English fluency.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate packaging redesigns for current SKUs and manage on-site film changeovers.
• Support NPD by managing packaging printing timelines and trials.
• Address day-to-day packaging issues with QA and operations.
• Develop understanding of packaging products to improve line efficiency.
• Ensure packaging is compliant with technical and legal requirements and accessible on electronic specs.
• Lead cost-saving and rationalisation projects; build supplier relationships.

Packaging Technologist

Location: Seaham, UK

Job Type: Full-time, Site-based

Salary: £35,000

Day-to-day of the role:

• Manage relationships with design houses to develop best practices, improve the printing process, and ensure high quality of reprographics.
• Coordinate packaging redesign projects for current SKUs and manage new film changeovers on site.
• Support the NPD process by managing timelines for packaging printing and introduction on site and providing trials and transit support.
• Address day-to-day packaging issues in collaboration with the QA and operations teams.
• Develop a deeper understanding of our packaging products to enhance operational line efficiency and product efficacy.
• Ensure all packaging is fit for purpose and compliant with technical and legal requirements, with specifications developed and held electronically for easy access.
• Lead packaging cost-saving and rationalisation projects.
• Build and maintain supplier relationships to stay informed about industry trends and innovations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Degree in Food Manufacturing or a related field, with a specific qualification in Packaging.
• Significant experience in NPD Packaging.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and timelines effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address quality, cost, and legal issues in packaging development.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to manage internal and external relationships.
• Fluent in English; additional language skills are beneficial but not required.

Working Conditions

• Frequent travel to Seaham/London.
• Primarily based in a manufacturing environment.
• Regular use of visual display units (VDUs).
• The role is challenging and requires the ability to work effectively under pressure.
