A large FMCG Group, which encompasses some of Britain’s most loved brands, has an exciting opportunity within their in-house packaging team. They are looking for someone with a high level of attention to detail to support the Lead Packaging Development Manager with all centrally led packaging change activity.

What will this role achieve?

As a key member of the factory technical team, the Packaging Technologist will ensure effective day-to-day management of packaging used on site; providing technical support to site-based projects, including managing transit testing, trialling new packaging materials, and supporting process investigations.

You will seek opportunities within packaging or process for increasing plant efficiencies, reducing waste levels, and costs. The role requires working to tight timescales in a constantly evolving environment and the ability to work on own initiatives.

What will be your key results?
  • Coordinate and support various packaging implementation projects across the factory's product portfolio.
  • Implement changes to material specifications to improve packaging consistency and functionality, meeting standards for quality, functionality, cost-effectiveness, consumer acceptance, stability, regulatory compliance, and operational feasibility.
  • Support the execution of projects within the Technical team: establishing packaging materials and dimensions in coordination with the site technical team, suppliers, and the origination team.
  • Create packaging prototypes/mockups based on briefs to illustrate technical possibilities.
  • Develop new outer cases/SRPs and pallet pattern configurations.
  • Approve artworks promptly, communicating issues to the manager.
  • Support packaging trials on-site, leading the creation and delivery of relevant documentation such as cutter guides, pallet patterns, component drawings, specifications, standards, tests, protocols, and reports.
  • Represent the site’s technical team at supplier reviews when required, driving improvements and working with suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Support process capability assessments for new and existing equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, COSHH, HACCP, and product specifications during trials.
What do you need for this role?

Essential:

  • Scientific background with experience working with lab testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of systems and software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work accurately under pressure.
  • High attention to detail.

Preferred:

  • Experience in an FMCG environment.
  • Degree in a technical field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to maintain good working relationships.
  • Strong presentation and analytical skills.
