Job summary

A multinational food manufacturer in Greater London is seeking a Packaging Development Technologist to manage packaging operations and support site projects. You will be responsible for coordinating projects, modifying material specifications, and developing new designs. A multinational food manufacturer, known for beloved brands in Britain, is seeking a Packaging Technologist to join its in-house packaging division. The role involves managing packaging operations, supporting site projects, testing, and process improvements.

The successful candidate will identify opportunities to improve packaging and processes, reduce waste, and increase efficiency, working independently within a dynamic environment. This is a fixed-term role initially for 6 months.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate packaging implementation projects across the product portfolio.
  • Modify material specifications for quality, functionality, cost, and compliance improvements.
  • Support project execution, establish packaging standards, and collaborate with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Create prototypes and mockups based on briefs.
  • Develop new packaging designs and configurations.
  • Approve artworks and communicate issues promptly.
  • Lead packaging trials, document processes, and analyze results.
  • Represent the technical team in supplier reviews and drive improvements.
  • Assess process capabilities and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and regulatory standards during trials.
Requirements:

Essential:

  • Degree or equivalent in a technical field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in packaging, preferably in FMCG.
  • Knowledge of flexible and corrugated packaging materials.
  • Experience with line trials and transit testing.
  • Strong time management and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of packaging's role in line efficiency.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Cape, AutoCAD, Adobe CS.
  • Understanding of BOPP, folding cartons, tins, thermoformed packaging.
  • Experience with packaging equipment and validation.
  • Supplier liaison experience.
  • Business acumen, interpersonal skills, and strong communication skills.
