About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Package Manager to join our Old Oak Common - Major Projects team in London.

Role Profile:

Responsible for managing WP10.1, a subcontractor for HS2 and Conventional Station Structural Steelwork, Cladding, Facade, and Glazing, and coordinating with other work packages such as MEP, Fit Out, Urban Realm, etc.

Support the Package Led / Senior Package Manager in executing the project successfully, including initiation, planning, design, procurement, delivery, monitoring, commissioning, and handover/closeout. Provide leadership to inspire a multidisciplinary team to achieve common goals.

Assist the Senior Package Manager in determining the best methods to meet customer and project requirements, considering Time, Cost, Quality, Scope, Risk, and Benefits.

Help define the scope for WP10.1 (OOC Station - Structural Steelwork, Cladding, Facade, and Glazing).

What you'll be doing

As a Package Manager, you will:

  • Analytical Thinking & Decision Making: Review specifications, drawings, and subcontractor documents (ITP, RAMS), ensure timely submission and review, and facilitate work commencement.
  • Propose constructability optimizations and develop high-level construction methodologies to support procurement, interface management, and early permitting (logistics, noise, access, etc.).

Health, Safety & Environmental

  • Monitor the effectiveness of the H&S Management System, support continuous improvement, and ensure subcontractor compliance with H&S and environmental standards.

Resources & Development

  • Develop, monitor, and report on resource allocation plans aligned with scope and deliverables.
  • Motivate the subcontractor team, ensure staff have the necessary skills and competencies, and identify training needs.

Risk, Issue & Opportunity

  • Assist in leading risk and opportunity reviews, present the Risk Register, and recommend or implement changes.
  • Log and escalate unresolved issues within delegated authority.

Procurement & Supply Chain

  • Ensure procurement plans and schedules align with overall project timelines, and materials/resources are supplied as per project targets.

Quality

  • Monitor performance against KPIs, ensure compliance, and oversee assurance activities, including audits and documentation of works.

Schedule

  • Track progress, implement Short Interval Control processes, and hold weekly meetings.
  • Ensure milestones align with the master schedule and client expectations.
Who we're looking for

Essential:

  • Experience with various project types, including rail interfaces and complex subcontract packages.
  • Relevant civils project experience, especially in Structural Steelwork, Cladding, Facade, and Glazing.
  • Enthusiastic, capable, and confident communicator, comfortable in collaborative environments.
  • Holding or working towards a management/construction/engineering qualification (BSc/MSc), with certifications like CSCS and SSSTS or equivalents.
  • Proven leadership with strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills, capable of managing multiple projects without compromising quality.
  • Passion for community impact and positive legacy.
  • Experience in safe systems of work, risk management, and change management.
  • Knowledge of temporary works design, management, and installation.
  • Proficient in O365 suite.

Desirable:

  • Professional qualification such as APM PFQ/PMQ or equivalent.
