About the role

Balfour Beatty has an excellent opportunity for Section Engineers and Sub Agents (Package Managers) to join our Major Projects team at the iconic Old Oak Common development in London.

HS2's new c. £1 billion Old Oak Common station will be the UK's best-connected rail station upon completion. Our joint venture, Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA, will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.

The station will feature six underground platforms, up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line, and high-speed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, along with direct services to three major airports. It will include passenger and retail facilities, offering an exceptional experience for passengers and visitors.

Responsibilities
  • Report to the Senior Package Manager and lead management of subcontractor packages related to architectural finishes such as metalwork, cladding, flooring, wall linings, and ceilings.
  • Manage interfaces with other work packages like MEPH, lifts, and escalators.
  • Promote Balfour Beatty's values, Zero Harm, and sustainability goals.
  • Lead and develop the team, ensuring competency and high performance.
  • Oversee health & safety compliance, conduct audits, and lead incident investigations.
  • Manage quality control, handover documentation, and resolve technical issues.
  • Plan and monitor works using stage programmes and KPIs.
  • Maintain commercial awareness, track costs, manage subcontractors, and support procurement.
Candidate requirements
  • CSCS & SMSTS certification
  • Experience in major civils or infrastructure projects, ideally with a focus on fit-out
  • Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Proactive, solution-focused approach with a solid work ethic
  • Confidence in leading teams and promoting a safe work environment
  • Skilled in developing method statements, risk assessments, and managing investigations
  • Knowledge of H&S legislation and quality management systems
  • Ability to plan, resource, and monitor programmes and KPIs effectively
  • Commercial awareness with experience in procurement and record-keeping
