Job summary

UPS in Preston, PR2 9ZB, is seeking a Dispatch Supervisor to analyze and plan daily package dispatch, align drivers to routes and supervise part-time staff. You will use data to optimize routes, update plans, and promote efficient loading and dispatch processes.

The role requires a valid category B driving licence (ideally with few points) and forklift certification. You should be organised, proactive and capable of working with depot managers and drivers to maintain service quality.

Qualifications

  • Minimum category B drivers licence with ideally no more than 3 points.
  • Forklift truck licence holder (FLT) - full in house training and certificates will be provided.
  • Good knowledge of the organisation and operations.
  • Previous experience of temperature controlled warehousing and multi drop driving would be advantageous.
  • Good understanding of Tachograph/Digi Card legislation.
  • Effective communication and administration skills.
  • Team player mentality with the ability to influence others and also to work on own initiative.
  • Build effective working relationships with drivers, management and support staff across the whole network.
  • Appreciate the need for maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Key holder to the site
  • Review Testo temperature graphs in both chiller and ambient chambers to ensure overnight/over weekend temperatures are correct, following the relevant reporting procedures
  • Align drivers and vehicles to routes
  • Assigning any patient keys, client paperwork and PAT test kits to the driver routes as required
  • Brief and debrief the drivers
  • Resolving any operational issues with the Depot Manager and drivers, such as routing and scheduling issues, driver absence, VOR and consignment problems to minimize the impact on the service
  • Oversee the driver scanning and loading process, assisting as and when required, dependent on shift
  • Ensuring drivers are dispatched within the allocated lead out time
  • Ensuring vehicles are road worthy and safety checks including VC40 for O-Licence vehicles are completed
  • Assisting with operational telephone calls, specifically driver related queries

Job Description

This position is responsible for analyzing and planning a center’s daily package dispatch to ensure timely and efficient dispatch service performance. He/She analyzes previous dispatch results to maximize service performance and to streamline routes. This position has primary responsibility for managing the center’s dispatch systems and processes. He/She reviews data (e.g., stop and volume trends, missed pieces, cost per piece, etc.) to identify dispatch trends and uses these trends to create plans that maximize results. This position records route modifications, such as new streets and customers, to keep plans up-to-date and oversees load modifications to improve service and reduce costs. He/She also develops, updates and monitors dispatch processes and plans using trend and production report data to adjust routes and evenly distribute work. This position works to improve dispatch operations by promoting the implementation of new technology and monitoring dispatch planning system functionality. He/She directly supervises Part-time Dispatch Supervisors.

Job Location: Polar Speed UPS, Unit 2 Belgrave Court, Caxton Road, Fullwood, Preston, PR2 9ZB

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday - 1pm - 9pm - 40 hours per week
