Job description

We are looking for a kind, friendly and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to support a 21-year-old young man to enjoy his interests, build his confidence, socialise and get out into the community.

He loves Transformers, robots, Super Sentai/Power Rangers, Yu-Gi-Oh!, gaming, cinema, swimming, Comic Cons and gaming conventions, as well as 80s and 90s music. He is also keen on activities such as DJing and getting out and about. His PA should be happy to join in with activities, including getting in the pool and swimming with him.

The role is about providing companionship, encouragement and positive support. He can have low self-esteem, so someone who is patient, encouraging and able to build his confidence while gently introducing him to new experiences would be ideal.

The PA will support him with accessing the community, attending activities, going to the gym and trying new things, while also providing respite for his parents. There may occasionally be a need to support his brother too.

The start time may be around 3:00pm when collecting him from his day centre, or around 3:30pm-4:00pm if starting from home.

There are two cats in the home, so you will need to be comfortable around pets. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is reliable, fun and genuinely interested in helping him enjoy life, develop his confidence and discover new experiences.

Duties include:
  • Other relevant duties as required
  • Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable with good timekeeping
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Hygienic, tidy and well organised
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honest and cheerful
  • Creative
  • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Must be comfortable with pets
  • Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
  • Understanding of autism and learning difficulties highly desired
  • Encouraging
Notes:

All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required. If the role is offered on a self-employed basis, you will be responsible for the cost of your own DBS check.
