Job description
Overview

Are you an experienced P6 Planner with knowledge of NEC contracts and experience on Substations/HV Power Upgrades on Rail projects? Salary: £50,000 to £60,000. Location: Birmingham (3–4 days per week in office, remainder from home).

Responsibilities
  • Hands-on planning role responsible for developing, updating, and maintaining construction schedules, with a particular focus on the civils and structural build phase of substations rather than MEP or systems fit-out.
  • Support delivery of the HV Traction Power System contract on HS2, coordinating with design, civil, and construction teams.
  • Develop programme baselines, track progress, perform schedule updates, and conduct schedule risk analysis and critical path assessment.
  • Prepare progress reports and communicate schedules to stakeholders; facilitate timely decision-making.
  • Engage with NEC contracts and apply them to programme management where required.
  • Provide input for forensic delay analysis where applicable.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Planner on major infrastructure projects, ideally in the rail, power, or energy sectors.
  • Experience working directly for Tier 1 main contractors on large-scale schemes.
  • Strong background in substation projects, specifically from a civils/structural perspective (groundworks, civils packages, enabling works).
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts and their application in programme management.
  • Excellent skills in Primavera P6 (hands-on programme building and maintenance).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Previous rail experience is desirable, but candidates with substation/power upgrade project experience (e.g., Grid, EDF, UKPN, SSE) will be strongly considered.
  • Forensic delay analysis experience is a significant advantage.
  • This is a priority requirement – if you have the right experience and are available, the client is prepared to interview next week.
