This major design consultancy is looking to onboard a Track Design Team Leader. Your background in design is not as essential as your desire to strategically grow the team and their ability to deliver on major projects inside and outside of the UK.

Our client now has a unique opportunity to join us at a senior level as Team Leader for Track design. The role will play a significant part in driving forward our offering in this space and supporting the team to deliver to a high-profile and important suite of design projects. Our key Engineering hubs for track design are Birmingham, York, Manchester, and Reading. With our hybrid/flexible working model, the right person will have significant opportunity for balancing office presence with homeworking.

This is a key role that underpins the growth of our dynamic, high-performing UK delivery organisation, blending technical and commercial awareness with strong communication and people management skills.

Main Duties
  • Manage a team underneath the Discipline Lead, to deliver the project works and strategic objectives set by the Discipline Lead
  • Responsible for works planning and team-level programme delivery
  • Act as a figurehead, demonstrating visible leadership of staff
  • Management of the health, safety, and wellbeing of staff in the team
  • Responsible for recruitment, training, and development of staff in the team
  • Undertaking and cascading objective setting and mid-year development reviews
  • Cascading of business communications through the team
  • Safety leadership in the team, ensuring monthly cascades are attended, championing close call reporting, demonstrating openness and commitment to improve safety

Experience Required

  • HNC/HND or degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Railway Engineering with IEng/CEng membership of an industry-recognised professional body
  • Demonstrable leadership experience within a Track Design team environment
  • Significant experience in permanent way engineering alignment design and track components specification
  • Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) including Microstation, Bentley RailTrack/OpenRail, and ClearRoute 2
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary issues associated with permanent way design
  • Knowledge of construction principles and standards including RSSB Group Standards, Network Rail GRIP Process, and Company Standards
  • Knowledge of track engineering contract conditions and safety standards including CDM and CSM-RA
