P.E Teacher Job Description

Position: P.E Teacher Location: Northampton

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Start Date: September 2025

Monarch Education is seeking a passionate and dedicated Physical Education Teacher to join a vibrant and supportive secondary school in Northampton on a full-time, long-term basis starting September 2025. The successful candidate will play a vital role in fostering students' physical well-being, teamwork, and a love for sports.

Key Responsibilities of a P.E Teacher

Teaching and Learning:

  • Deliver engaging and well-structured P.E lessons to students across KS3, KS4, and KS5.
  • Develop creative and inclusive schemes of work to support varying skill levels.
  • Encourage students to adopt healthy lifestyles and understand the importance of physical fitness.
  • Incorporate a variety of teaching methods, including practical sessions, fitness assessments, and theoretical learning.
  • Assess students’ performance and provide constructive feedback to help them improve.
  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations where applicable.

Classroom & Sports Facility Management:

  • Maintain a safe and stimulating environment for students to develop their skills.
  • Set clear expectations for behavior, discipline, and teamwork.
  • Ensure health and safety protocols are followed during all lessons and sporting activities.
  • Keep equipment in good working order and ensure its proper use.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the P.E curriculum and align it with national standards.
  • Plan and coordinate school sports events, competitions, and extracurricular activities.
  • Support the school’s initiatives to promote physical well-being and mental health.
  • Inspire students to engage in sports beyond the classroom and consider professional opportunities in athletics.

Student Support & Development:

  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere where all students feel encouraged to participate.
  • Identify individual learning needs and adapt lesson plans accordingly.
  • Provide pastoral care to students, guiding them in building confidence and resilience.
  • Promote teamwork, leadership, and personal growth through sports.

Collaboration and Professional Development:

  • Engage actively in departmental meetings, sharing best practices and coaching techniques.
  • Work with fellow teachers to integrate P.E with other subjects, emphasizing the role of fitness in academics and daily life.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay updated on coaching strategies and sports science.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is essential.
  • A degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience teaching P.E at KS3, KS4, and KS5, with a deep understanding of curriculum requirements.
  • Ability to differentiate lessons to accommodate students of all abilities.
  • Strong classroom and sports facility management skills.
  • Enthusiastic, motivational, and passionate about sports and fitness.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with staff and students.
