Job summary

Kirby Group Engineering is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design HV substation protection and control systems for transformers, transmission lines, busbars and switchgear. You will develop protection philosophies, relay settings, interlocking schemes and support SCADA integration, testing and system upgrades while liaising with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

A degree in Electrical Engineering is required; experience with IEC/IEEE standards and software like ETAP, DIgSILENT, EPLAN is

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in HV Substation Protection & Control design.
• Strong understanding of power system protection, control, and substation automation.
• Knowledge of IEC, IEEE, ANSI standards and IEC 61850 protocols.
• Experience with power system and design software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT, EPLAN, Helinks, or similar.
• Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design HV substation protection and control systems for transformers, transmission lines, busbars, and switchgear.

• Support SCADA integration, communication architectures, and IEC 61850-based solutions.
• Perform protection coordination, fault analysis, and system studies.
• Produce and review technical documentation, drawings, specifications, and reports.
• Support testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and system upgrades.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Review third-party designs and ensure compliance with project and industry standards.
