Job summary

Kirby Group Engineering is seeking a design-focused electrical engineer to lead HV substation protection projects in a busy, multi-disciplinary environment.

You will design protection and control systems, develop relay settings, support SCADA integration, and produce technical documentation while liaising with clients and project teams to deliver on time, safely and within budget. Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in HV Substation Protection & Control design.
• Strong understanding of power system protection, control, and substation automation.
• Knowledge of IEC, IEEE, ANSI standards and IEC 61850 protocols.
• Experience with power system/design software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT, EPLAN.

Responsibilities

• Design HV substation protection and control systems for transformers, transmission lines, busbars, and switchgear.
• Develop protection philosophies, relay settings, control schematics, and interlocking schemes.
• Support SCADA integration, communication architectures, and IEC 61850-based solutions.
• Perform protection coordination, fault analysis, and system studies.
• Produce and review technical documentation, drawings, specifications, and reports.
• Support testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and system upgrades.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Review third-party designs and ensure compliance with project and industry standards.
