Job summary

Kirby Group Engineering is seeking a qualified Electrical Engineer to design HV substation protection and control systems as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will develop protection philosophies, relay settings, and interlocking schemes for transformers, transmission lines, busbars and switchgear, delivering safe, on-time projects.

The role requires a degree in Electrical Engineering, strong knowledge of power system protection, IEC/IEEE/ANSI standards, and hands-on experience with ETAP,

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in HV Substation Protection & Control design.
  • Strong understanding of power system protection and substation automation.

Responsibilities

  • Design HV substation protection and control systems for transformers, transmission lines, busbars, and switchgear.
  • Develop protection philosophies, relay settings, control schematics, and interlocking schemes.
  • Support SCADA integration, communication architectures, and IEC 61850-based solutions.
  • Perform protection coordination, fault analysis, and system studies.
  • Produce and review technical documentation, drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Support testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and system upgrades.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Review third-party designs and ensure compliance with project and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in HV Substation Protection & Control design.
  • Strong understanding of power system protection, control, and substation automation.
  • Knowledge of IEC, IEEE, ANSI standards and IEC 61850 protocols.
  • Experience with power system and design software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT, EPLAN, Helinks, or similar.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills.
