Job summary

A welcoming school in Oxford is seeking a reliable School Caretaker to support the daily running of its premises. This role is full-time and temporary, with potential to extend, and requires practical maintenance skills and a keen eye for safety and presentation.

Ideal candidates will have caretaking or facilities maintenance experience, preferably in a school, and be able to work independently while handling routine inspections, safety duties and coordination with contractors as needed.

Qualifications

• Caretaking, premises or facilities maintenance experience essential.
• Experience in a school environment desirable.
• Practical skills for general maintenance and minor repairs.
• Good health and safety understanding and site security.
• Reliable, proactive, able to work independently.
• Flexible and willing to assist with varied day-to-day needs.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance, minor repairs and basic DIY tasks across the school site.
• Complete routine inspections of buildings, grounds and facilities.
• Ensure the school premises are clean, tidy, safe and presentable.
• Assist with opening and securing the site in line with school procedures.
• Monitor health and safety issues and report hazards or maintenance concerns promptly.
• Support the movement of furniture, equipment and deliveries when required.
• Liaise with contractors and assist with maintenance visits.
• Ensure all duties are completed in accordance with school policies and safety procedures.
