Job Title: Over 16 Teaching Assistant (TA)

Location: Wareham

Salary: GBP13.68 - GBP16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)

Start Date: Immediate

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

GSL Education is recruiting a dedicated Over 16 Teaching Assistant to join an inspiring educational setting in Wareham.

The School

The school caters to students aged + years with Special Educational Needs. Located on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside, it operates enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the surrounding area. Focus areas include horticulture, agriculture, equine skills, and animal care, among others, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.

Your Responsibilities
  • Support students aged + with SEN in classroom and vocational environments.
  • Assist in practical sessions such as horticulture, animal care, agriculture, and equine activities to promote hands-on skill development.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual learning plans and needs.
  • Encourage independence, self-esteem, and life skills through structured tasks and positive reinforcement.
  • Help students connect theoretical learning with real-world vocational experiences across the school's countryside setting.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to deliver inclusive and engaging lessons, adapting materials as needed.
  • Support students' emotional wellbeing and behaviour, fostering a calm learning environment.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, especially during outdoor or enterprise activities.
  • Contribute to planning, monitoring, and recording student progress in academic and vocational areas.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team including teachers, therapists, and enterprise leaders to provide holistic education.
Candidate Expectations
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people and adults with SEN.
  • Experience working with individuals with SEN in educational, care, or community settings is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships.
  • A flexible, hands-on approach supporting vocational and enterprise-based learning.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in a countryside environment.
  • Patience, resilience, and the ability to promote independence and confidence.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.
  • Ability to adapt support methods to diverse learning styles.
  • Team-player mindset, capable of working collaboratively.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support, care, or vocational education (desirable).
  • A valid UK driving licence and willingness to drive are essential.
  • Up-to-date CV and enhanced DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to apply).
