Job Title: over-16 SEN Teaching Assistant
Location:

Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start: Immediate or September 2025
Contract: Full time/Permanent

GSL Education are looking for a proactive over-16 SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a specialist educational setting based in Poole.

About the School: The school is an education setting based for + years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and group support to learners aged 16+ with Special Educational Needs to help them engage fully in their education.
  • Assist teaching staff in delivering personalised learning programmes that focus on practical, vocational, and life skills.
  • Support learners in developing independence, communication, and social skills.
  • Help create a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of all pupils.
  • Support behaviour management strategies and promote positive wellbeing.
  • Work closely with staff, families, and external professionals to ensure a consistent approach to each learner s development.
  • Assist with preparing resources and maintaining a safe and organised classroom or learning space.

Requirements:

  • Experience or a strong interest in working with young people with special educational needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to support a range of learning needs, including social, emotional, and behavioural challenges.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting learners both individually and in groups.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and follow guidance from teaching and specialist staff.
  • Ideally need a valid driving license and be willing to drive.
  • An enhanced DBS certificate on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
