Description
To oversee all aspects of our outwards reinsurance activities. This role is critical in providing oversight of the reinsurance activities managed by our key outsourced providers, ensuring efficient and accurate operations, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.
Specific Responsibilities
- Support the Group Head of Outwards with the overall management of the department.
- Manage and develop team members to support the growth and effectiveness of the reinsurance function.
- Coordinate and oversee reinsurance administration activities, including premium calculations, recoveries, claims reporting, and data management.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements and internal governance standards.
- Analyse and report on reinsurance market trends and developments that may impact the company's risk strategy.
- Prepare management reports and presentations for senior leadership and Board committees as required.
- Support renewal processes by preparing underwriting information, exposure data, and loss history summaries.
- Collaborate with underwriters, actuaries, finance, and claims teams to assess reinsurance needs and support pricing, reserving, and capital planning activities.
- Monitor the performance and effectiveness of reinsurance programs and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Engage in on-going projects that require reinsurance expertise, contributing your knowledge and insights to drive successful outcomes.
- Ensure operational controls are thoroughly documented and adhered to, maintaining a high standard of compliance with established control languages.
Essential Skills & Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience in insurance and reinsurance sectors, demonstrating proficiency in various types of reinsurance and strong financial reporting acumen.
- Educational background in insurance, finance, actuarial science, or a related field. Professional designations such as ACII, CPCU, or equivalent are preferred.
- Sound experience in outwards reinsurance, either within an insurer, reinsurer, or broker.
- Strong technical knowledge of treaty and facultative reinsurance across multiple lines of business.
- Demonstrated success in managing small to medium-sized teams, fostering collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Strong process management and time management capabilities; adept at leading initiatives that enhance team efficiency.
- Solid understanding of insurance and reinsurance financials, including loss triangles, IBNR, and capital models.
- Analytical mindset with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to a range of stakeholders.
- Experience with reinsurance administration systems and exposure management tools is an advantage.
- A proactive mindset, demonstrating a willingness to challenge the status quo and effectively solve complex problems.
