Overview

Mechanical (Fluids & Thermal) Analyst
Contract - Outside IR35 - Fully Remote

About the Role

We are seeking a Mechanical (Fluids & Thermal) Analyst to support the development and qualification of ground support equipment for space launch applications. This position focuses on analysing and optimising fluid and thermal performance in cryogenic environments, ensuring system reliability, safety, and efficiency across all operational conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Perform fluid and thermal analyses of cryogenic ground support systems and associated mechanical interfaces.
  • Evaluate heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid flow behaviour under cryogenic and transient conditions.
  • Assess temperature-induced stresses, material performance, and fatigue in pipework and connected systems.
  • Analyse failure modes related to thermal gradients, contraction, and cryogenic temperature effects on neighbouring components.
  • Collaborate with design and CAD engineers to feed analytical results into design improvements.
  • Conduct system-level modelling to evaluate the impact of thermal loads on overall equipment performance.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation to support reviews and compliance activities.
About You
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer analysis.
  • Strong hands-on experience using ANSYS for thermal and structural simulations.
  • Understanding of cryogenic materials, fluid systems, and low-temperature behaviour.
  • Experience conducting stress and failure mode analysis for complex mechanical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability with a focus on practical design integration.
  • Prior experience with aerospace or ground support equipment is advantageous.
