Job summary

Quantum Scholars are currently seeking compassionate, patient Secondary Outreach Tutors to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to young people across Wokingham. This in-person role involves home and community-based sessions, and is not online.

You should be confident working with secondary-aged learners who may face barriers to mainstream education due to SEND, SEMH, anxiety or behavioural challenges.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Secondary Outreach Tutor - Wokingham

Location: Wokingham, Berkshire
Phase: Secondary / SEND / SEMH / EOTAS
Working Arrangement: In-person - home and community based

Quantum Scholars are looking for compassionate, patient and experienced Secondary Outreach Tutors to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to young people across Wokingham.

The role is suited to someone who is confident working with secondary-aged young people who may be unable to access mainstream education due to SEND, SEMH needs, anxiety, school avoidance, behavioural difficulties or other barriers to learning.

As an Outreach Tutor, you will provide flexible, individualised educational support designed around the needs of each young person. The focus will be on delivering appropriate academic tuition, building confidence and helping learners gradually re-engage with education.

Sessions may take place within the young person's home or an appropriate community setting, depending on the individual referral.

This is an in-person role and is not online work.

The role may involve:

• Providing personalised one-to-one educational tuition to secondary-aged learners.
• Supporting young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Delivering EOTAS and Alternative Provision support where appropriate.
• Supporting core subjects including English, Maths and Science, depending on your subject specialism.
• Supporting learners across the secondary curriculum, including GCSE where appropriate.
• Adapting lessons, resources and activities to meet individual learning needs.
• Supporting young people who may be unable to access mainstream education.
• Helping learners rebuild confidence, motivation and engagement with education.
• Supporting young people experiencing anxiety, school avoidance or disengagement.
• Supporting learners who may display challenging or unpredictable behaviour.
• Using positive behaviour strategies and appropriate de-escalation approaches where required.
• Building positive and trusting relationships with young people.
• Providing a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
• Developing independence, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning.
• Using the learner's interests and strengths to encourage engagement.
• Monitoring academic progress and providing appropriate feedback.
• Working collaboratively with parents/carers, schools and other professionals.
• Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Essential requirements:

• Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Experience providing one-to-one educational or tutoring support.
• Experience supporting young people who may have barriers to mainstream education.
• Experience working with challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.
• Experience in a school, tutoring, Alternative Provision, EOTAS or similar educational setting.
• Ability to adapt teaching and support to individual academic, emotional and behavioural needs.
• A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
• Confidence working independently in home and community settings.
• Ability to establish clear professional boundaries.
• Resilience and consistency when supporting young people who may experience significant barriers to education.
• Strong organisational skills and a reliable approach to work.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
