Elementa isrecruiting for an Outreach Sports Coach to join our support staff team and work alongside the other Sports Coaches at our new Special School. The school supports primary-aged learners who all have an EHCP and have SEND mainly relating to: SEMH, ASC, ADHD, trauma. This role would suit someone with previous experience / relevant sports qualifications able to incorporate physical activity into the daily learning for all learners. Learners can display challenging behaviour or refuse to engage, so a consistent approach and calm manner is required.Previous experience of working in aspecialist provision, or in similar conditions would be strongly beneficial.

This particular opportunity for a sports Coach is slightly different in that it will also involve working at our alternative provision sites as required. These other sites are based in:South Bristol, Clevedon, Banwell and Weston-Super-Mare. Whilst the role is open to any applicant with the relevant skills, preference may be give to candidates with their own transport thus able to travel more conveniently between sites.

You will be a role model for the young children, providing effective educational support for staff and children within the provision. Key duties within the role to include:

  • Devising & delivering sports activities appropriate to individual and groups of learners.
  • To provide academic and pastoral support to students to enable them to overcome any barriers to achievement within their provision.
  • To liaise with teaching staff to help plan and develop appropriate resources to enable young people to fully access all activities and make good progress.
  • To liaise with support staff and teachers to share strategies for support
  • To work as part of the team that responds to challenging behaviour
  • To provide information, advice and structured support to enable students to makepositive choices about their behaviour, attendance and social interactions
  • To assist in developing strong links between the school and families in order to improve educationalopportunities for students and to promote a positive attitude towards school
  • To comply with confidentiality and safeguarding procedures
  • To contribute to the monitoring, recording and analysis of the welfare and daily experiences of our young people.
  • Modelling high standards and being a positive participant in a culture of sharing good practice amongst all staff.
  • Contributing to the system of whole school rewards.
  • To support young people to develop a wider educational, social and cultural understanding of life.
  • To monitor the individual health needs of young people and to communicate those needs to other staff as appropriate.

The learners we support have often had negative experiences relating to education or have anxiety relating to schools and other learning environments. Colleagues at our school and alternative provisions work hard to engage and support learners emotionally and educationally. We've had fantastic outcomes for the young people we support so we're seeking applicants that thrive from helping young people to develop and have a brighter future.
