Job summary

Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an Outreach Officer (Cognition & Learning) to join our Specialist Inclusion Team and help ensure that children and young people with SEND access the right support, at the right time, in the right way.

You will work with schools and settings to implement recommendations, deliver targeted interventions, undertake assessments and contribute to EHCP planning, reviews and training.

Qualifications

  • Holds a Level 3 qualification or higher in SEND or related field.
  • Has experience supporting children and young people with SEND, cognition and learning needs.
  • Understands effective SEND interventions and support strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical casework support and specialist advice for schools and settings.
  • Deliver targeted interventions for individuals and groups, modelling effective practice.
  • Support children, families to understand needs and identify strategies.
  • Undertake assessments and provide specialist cognition and learning advice.
  • Contribute to Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments, planning and reviews.

Calderdale is ambitious for all children and young people. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Outreach Officer (Cognition & Learning) to join our Specialist Inclusion Team and help ensure that children and young people with SEND can access the right support, at the right time, in the right way.

This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with children, families, schools and educational settings across Calderdale to promote inclusive practice and improve outcomes for children and young people with cognition and learning needs.

About the role

As an Outreach Officer, you will provide practical casework support, specialist advice and targeted interventions to support schools and settings in meeting the needs of children and young people with SEND.

You will:
  • Work alongside schools and educational settings to implement and review recommendations for children and young people with SEND.
  • Deliver targeted interventions for individuals and groups, modelling effective practice.
  • Support children, young people and families to understand needs and identify effective strategies.
  • Undertake assessments and provide specialist advice within your area of cognition and learning expertise.
  • Contribute to Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments, planning and reviews.
  • Develop and deliver training, resources and guidance for schools and professionals.
  • Support the development of inclusive practice across Calderdale.
About you
  • Holds a relevant qualification at Level 3 or above in SEND or a related field.
  • Has experience supporting children and young people with SEND, particularly cognition and learning needs.
  • Understands effective SEND interventions, approaches and support strategies.
  • Has experience working in educational settings.
  • Can build positive relationships with children, families, schools and professionals.
  • Is committed to improving outcomes and opportunities for children and young people with SEND.
