Job Description:
  • About the role: To deliver effective engagement, harm reduction, and recovery-focused interventions for service users presenting with drug, alcohol, and offending problems in community and prison settings.
  • Provide an arrest referral service linking police, prison, and community services.
  • Deliver structured group work using evidence-based programmes like SMART Recovery and Foundations of Recovery, alongside drug awareness, harm reduction, and acupuncture sessions.
  • Offer Assertive Outreach to service users in their localities, homes, and communities, supporting appointments to promote social inclusion and engagement.
  • Provide Naloxone and injecting equipment as part of harm reduction efforts.
  • Manage referrals from police stations or custody staff.
  • Support peer initiatives and gather service user feedback.
  • Act as a liaison between the service and recovery communities in Edinburgh.
About you:
  • Strong understanding of drug and alcohol issues with experience in criminal justice or related fields.
  • Knowledge of the harmful effects of drug misuse and offending on health, social welfare, housing, employment, and relationships.
  • Ability to work unsociable hours as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with good IT proficiency.
  • Proactive, independent worker with excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Knowledge of mental health interventions, services, and best practices.
  • Supportive team player with strong interpersonal skills, capable of working with diverse professionals and stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to change prioritizing service users' needs.
  • Understanding of information governance and safeguarding procedures.
