Job Title: Outdoor Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Poole
Salary:
£13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate or September 2025
Contract Type:

Love the outdoors? Ready to make a real impact in young lives? GSL Education are delighted to be recruiting for a passionate Outdoor Teaching Assistant to work in a dynamic school in Poole.

About the School: The school is an education setting based for + years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with Special Educational Needs during practical, outdoor learning sessions in areas such as horticulture, agriculture, equine care, and animal husbandry.
  • Assist teaching staff in delivering vocational activities that promote life skills, independence, and employability.
  • Encourage student engagement by creating a positive and inclusive outdoor learning environment tailored to individual needs.
  • Help maintain safety and wellbeing during all outdoor tasks, including handling tools, equipment, and animals.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider staff team to monitor student progress, provide feedback, and adapt support strategies accordingly.

Requirements:

  • Experience or interest in working with young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly in a vocational or outdoor setting.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for outdoor education, including areas such as horticulture, agriculture, equine care, or animal care.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions and engage in physically active, hands-on tasks alongside students.
  • A valid driving licence is highly desirable due to the rural location and potential need to transport students or access different areas of the site.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the update service or willingness to apply.
