Job description

Role: Outdoor/Sport/Forest School Instructor

Location: Wessex Lodge School, Frome, Somerset BA11 4LA

Salary: GBP24,000.00 per annum (not pro rata)

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only

About the role

To teach pupils across the full age and ability range present in the school (ages 5-18), ensuring high standards of achievement, personal development, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ensure the school's vision is clearly articulated, shared, understood, and effectively acted upon by all.
  2. Collaborate within the school community to translate this vision into objectives and operational plans that promote school improvement.
  3. Demonstrate the school's vision and values in daily work and practice.
  4. Motivate and work with others to create a positive culture and environment.
  5. Encourage creativity, innovation, and the use of appropriate new technologies to achieve excellence.
  6. Assist PE/ODE Leads in strategic planning that considers the diversity and values of the school and community.
  7. Develop and monitor outstanding alternative education provision.

  • Enjoys being active, outdoors, and thinking 'outside of the box'.
  • Creative and innovative.
  • Experience in teaching young people.

Wessex Lodge School comprises three sites: Primary in Kilmington, Secondary in Frome, and Newmead Farm in Maiden Bradley. Students explore various curricula including animal care, horticulture, DT, and forest school, alongside sports activities.

Students aged 6-18 have individual needs, supported by the THRIVE approach and skilled staff to improve life outcomes. We welcome candidates with interests or qualifications in animal care, horticulture, construction, outdoor education, forestry, or related trades or hobbies.
