The Haefen Independent Special School, part of LIFE Education Trust, seeks an enthusiastic Outdoor Learning Lead to develop and deliver our outdoor curriculum across Beach School, woodland, allotments and growing areas, supporting SEMH and SEND pupils.

You will work year-round outdoors, build trusting relationships, plan practical activities, and collaborate with staff to integrate outdoors with science, geography and life skills, enriching learning beyond the classroom.

Formación

• Have experience working with children and young people, ideally SEMH/SEND or barriers to engagement in education.
• Genuine passion for outdoor learning and its impact on academic, social and emotional development.
• Confident planning and leading practical learning experiences outdoors.
• Understand trauma-informed and relational approaches; value relationships, regulation and safety.
• Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have learning barriers.
• Calm, patient, resilient; respond positively to challenging behaviours.
• Creative in identifying learning opportunities in the natural environment.
• Enthusiastic about developing projects with pupils, including woodland and allotment.
• Comfortable working outdoors year-round and adapting activities to weather and pupil needs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; risk assessment and safeguarding minded.
• Committed to inclusive education and improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.
• Share values of Courageous Optimism, Boundless Creativity and Heartfelt Compassion.
• Desirable qualifications/experience in Forest School, Beach School, horticulture, environmental education or outdoor/land-based learning.

Responsabilidades

• Lead development of Outdoor Learning across The Haefen; integrate into curriculum.
• Plan and deliver engaging outdoor learning for SEMH/SEND pupils.
• Lead Beach School provision using private beach and coastal environment.
• Develop woodland learning including nature-based activities and practical skills.
• Establish and develop allotment and growing areas with pupil ownership.
• Create opportunities for pupils to grow, harvest, prepare and use produce; link to healthy living.
• Align outdoor learning with wider curriculum (science, geography, maths, English, design & tech, physical development, personal development).
• Use outdoor learning to develop emotional regulation, resilience, independence, teamwork and communication.
• Adapt activities to reflect individual development, EHCP outcomes and needs.
• Develop progressive outdoor learning opportunities to build knowledge and independence.
• Collaborate with teachers and SEMH Learning Support staff to complement pupils' programmes.
• Support colleagues to build confidence in using outdoor environments.
• Ensure activities are risk assessed and compliant with safeguarding and safety requirements.
• Maintain and organise outdoor learning resources and areas.
