Job summary

LiveWest is seeking a Grounds Operative to maintain estates across the Yeovil area, delivering high-quality outdoor spaces while upholding health and safety standards. This full-time role involves a 40-hour week and driving a shared van during a mobile schedule.

You should have grounds maintenance experience, be physically fit, and able to work outdoors in all weathers. Training and equipment are provided as part of a supportive Estates team.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in grounds maintenance or outdoor manual roles.
• Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Knowledge of basic horticultural practices (weeding, planting, pruning).
• Understanding of health and safety requirements including COSHH and PUWER.
• Experience operating and maintaining horticultural equipment safely.
• Ability to plan and prioritise work, and work independently.
• Good communication and customer-focused approach.
• Full UK manual driving licence (essential).

Responsibilities

• Carry out general grounds maintenance including grass cutting, hedge trimming, weeding, leaf clearance, and shrub bed maintenance to a professional standard.
• Operate and maintain horticultural machinery safely (mowers, brushcutters, hedge cutters, blowers).
• Inspect communal areas and proactively report defects, fly-tipping, vandalism, or health and safety concerns.
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe working order and report faults promptly.
• Follow LiveWest's health and safety procedures at all times.
• Engage positively with customers and refer issues when appropriate.
• Record completed work accurately using handheld digital technology.
• Support wider Estates team with seasonal and emergency tasks (gritting, reactive work).
