Job Title: Outdoor Education Support Worker

Location: Poole

Salary: GBP13.68 - GBP16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)

Start: Immediate or September 2025

Contract: Full time/Permanent

If so, GSL Education is delighted to offer an opportunity for an Outdoor Education Support Worker to join a unique educational setting located in the scenic countryside of Poole.

About the School: The school caters to students aged + with Special Educational Needs. It is situated on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school employs enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the surrounding area. The focus is on vocations such as horticulture, agriculture, equine skills, and animal care, among others, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.

Responsibilities:

  1. Support young people aged + with Special Educational Needs in a vocational learning environment set across 350 acres of countryside.
  2. Assist in delivering hands-on learning in areas like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills, and animal care.
  3. Collaborate with teaching staff to implement enterprise-based activities that connect education with employment.
  4. Encourage learners to engage with outdoor tasks and develop practical, real-world skills fostering independence and confidence.
  5. Provide tailored one-to-one and group support to meet individual needs, ensuring a person-centred educational experience.
  6. Maintain outdoor learning spaces, including gardens, animal enclosures, and agricultural areas, ensuring safety and stimulation.
  7. Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing, acting as a supportive presence throughout the school day.
  8. Contribute to the school's ethos of inclusion, opportunity, and personal growth through nature-based and vocational learning.

Requirements:

  1. A strong interest in working within a specialist educational setting supporting young people with SEN through practical, real-life experiences.
  2. Enthusiasm for outdoor, hands-on activities aligned with the school's vocational focus.
  3. A commitment to bridging education and employment via enterprise-based and person-centred support.
  4. Physical and emotional resilience to work across a large countryside site in all weather conditions.
  5. Ability to create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment that promotes personal growth.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  7. Patience, adaptability, and a proactive attitude to support pupils with diverse needs, including autism and learning disabilities.
  8. Previous SEN experience is beneficial but not essential; training and support are provided.
  9. Ideally, a valid driving license and willingness to drive.
  10. An enhanced DBS certificate on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
