Out Patients Occupational Therapist - Band 6 ( QIA #1264)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated senior Occupational Therapist to join our hand therapy team at ULTH. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in hand therapy in the outpatient setting and be motivated to deliver high quality of care to our patients promoting evidence based practice approaches.

The successful applicant will be able to provide a high standard of Occupational Therapy assessment & interventions to people who have had hand injury, hand condition or a rheumatological condition and are experiencing difficulties with their Occupational Performance. Working together with the individual, to assess needs, agree goals, implement intervention plans and evaluate progress. They will independently manage a defined outpatient caseload with indirect supervision from a Team Lead Occupational Therapist. They will contribute to the learning and development of the wider MDT team and promote the work of their speciality.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate must be flexible, innovative & highly motivated. The role requires the appointed person to be proactive and adaptable to support the needs of our service.

The successful candidate will autonomously provide safe and effective assessment, development and evaluation of treatment programes and comprehensive discharge plans for patients, many of whom may have complex needs. To provide training, instruction and advice to patients and carer/relatives regarding their Occupational Therapy.

They will be responsible for organising and prioritising designated caseload effectively and efficiently within designated timescales, demonstrating well developed clinical reasoning skills.

Job responsibilities

To delegate aspects of the patient treatment plan to Occupational Therapy personnel, whilst maintaining overall responsibility for patients care.

To provide guidance to Band 5 Therapy staff and Therapy Support workers within the team.

To work effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary team attending meetings, and case conferences as necessary, to provide high quality clinical decision-making and care for the patients.

To provide supportive and sensitive communication, written and verbal advice to patients, carers and staff, whilst demonstrating an understanding of the nature and effects of some information and of barriers to effective communication

To be responsible for own administration tasks including prompt and accurate completion of clinical and statistical records to RCOT, Trust and departmental guidelines.

To adhere to the standards, policies and procedures of the Trust and Department and the Royal College Of Occupational Therapists, Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and associated legislation e.g. Health and Safety At Work Act.

To convey complex written and verbal information appropriately on both clinical and non-clinical issues with guidance from the Occupational Therapy Team Lead as required.

To identify own training and development needs and actively participate in the delivery of training opportunities for staff and students, including those from other teams and disciplines.

To contribute to practice placement education for OT students from a variety of HEIs as detailed in departmental guidelines with support from the Occupational Therapy Team Lead.

To contribute to service development in conjunction with colleagues across the health and social care community, seeking opportunities to promote and develop the profession.

To undertake Clinical Governance activities: demonstrating evidence of Continuing Professional Development including mandatory training, induction, personal development review, health and safety, risk management, audit and clinical supervision.

To contribute to the recruitment and selection of Occupational Therapy staff as requested by the Site Lead OT.

To contribute to project work and to develop and promote the service as required by Team Lead, Site Lead or Clinical Lead for Therapy Services.

To contribute to departmental routine including housekeeping and clerical tasks.

To undertake any other appropriate additional duties, following negotiation with the Occupational Therapy Team Lead or Site Lead OT, as required by the needs of the service.
