Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join us at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to drive, champion, and defend gold standard care for Older People. The post-holder will provide clinical, strategic, and professional leadership for Older People nursing, ensuring that the care delivered to all our patients is safe, effective, caring, well-led, and responsive both now and in the future. The post-holder will be a source of expertise and operate with a high degree of autonomy whilst also working closely and collaboratively with senior medical colleagues.

There are four domains to the job:

  1. Advanced Clinical Practitioner level or expert level practice of care of Older People and especially those living with dementia and/or experiencing delirium and frailty
  2. Consultancy and leadership
  3. Development and provision of education and training

The post-holder will lead well-established, supportive, and collaborative multi-disciplinary teams dedicated to ensuring high quality care of Older People at King’s.

The post-holder will be responsible for the professional leadership of the Older People nursing workforce, working with the Dementia & Delirium (‘DAD’), Frailty, and King’s Older People Advice & Liaison (KOPAL) teams, and demonstrating a supportive, person-centred, and motivational approach with a ‘can-do’ attitude.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical, strategic, and professional leadership for Older People nursing, ensuring that the care delivered to all patients is safe, effective, caring, well-led, and responsive.

The post-holder will:

  • Contribute to the strategic direction and leadership for Older People care services Trust-wide, in conjunction with senior medical colleagues
  • Function as an expert practitioner, able to deliver high-quality care to patients and families on their caseload – 50% of their time
  • Drive the training, education, and development of nurses and allied health professionals working in the department, through (but not limited to):
    • Maintain and grow links with educational and academic providers
    • Grow the Trust-wide Older People Nursing Training Programme
    • Establish recognition, locally and beyond, for the Older People Nursing Training Programme
  • Drive improvement in service quality and patient experience for Older People both in hospital and in care homes in Lambeth and Southwark
  • Take a direct role in service development, research, and evaluation
  • Line manage the Dementia and Delirium Team, the Frailty Practitioner Lead, and the KOPAL Lead demonstrating a supportive, person-centred, and motivational approach
  • Represent the service at local, national, and international meetings to promote the Older Persons care agenda and academic teams
