Job description
Out of Hours Assistant

Grade 1, £24,796 pro rata. Temporary, term time only. Required from 12 January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter until 31 December 2026. Times of work – 3.30pm start with variable finish times.

We are seeking to appoint an Out of Hours Assistant to work in our wraparound provision. Wraparound opens Monday to Friday and begins at 3.30pm each day. Working hours are variable depending on how late the children stay each night. The latest finish time is 6.00pm. There is a minimum of 5 hours per week (Monday to Friday 3.30pm – 4.30pm) and a maximum of 11 hours (Monday to Thursday 3.30pm – 6.00pm and Friday 3.30pm – 4.30pm).

Key Purpose of the Job
  • Safeguard children during after‑school wraparound.
  • Prepare and assist with a wide variety of activities for the children on site.
  • Prepare and supervise snack.
What You Will Do
  • Build a strong and appropriate rapport with children.
  • Work as part of a successful team.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and children.
  • Support children in their play while maintaining safety and following the school's behaviour guidelines.
  • Demonstrate good food hygiene practices and follow the school health and safety policies.
Qualifications & Criteria
  • Commitment to safeguarding.
  • Experience working with children (preferred).
  • Good spoken English.
  • Ability to converse at ease with customers.
  • Background checks: Childcare disqualification, Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), Medical, Prohibition from teaching, Right to work, Satisfactory references, Suitability to work with children.

Additional Information

The position is paid whole time with retainer adjustments applied during periods of school closure. You will not be required to work during school closure periods, however your salary will be adjusted accordingly in line with retainer regulations as specified in the National Joint Council (NJC) Green Book agreement.
