Sword Group is seeking an OT Infrastructure Engineer / Consultant in Aberdeen to design, build and deliver secure, resilient OT infrastructure across Windows, Linux and VMware environments. You will work with clients and internal specialists to deploy, test and support industrial applications from design through go-live.

• Provide resilient, highly available infrastructure for critical systems.
• Assist SAN/NAS and enterprise storage technologies.
• Support backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions.
• Perform infrastructure health checks, troubleshooting and performance analysis.
• Contribute to server hardening, patching and lifecycle management.
• Produce HL/LLD, build guides, test plans and as-built docs.
• Collaborate with OT, cyber security, networking and engineering teams.
• Provide technical consultancy and guidance to clients.

About the role:

As the OT Infrastructure Engineer / Consultant, you will play a key role in the design, build and delivery of secure, resilient infrastructure supporting complex OT and industrial environments.

You will work across physical and virtual server infrastructure, VMware, Windows and Linux platforms, supporting environments from initial design and build through application integration, testing, commissioning and production go-live.

Working closely with clients and specialists across OT, cyber security, networking, applications and engineering, you will help deliver reliable infrastructure capable of supporting critical operational systems and industrial applications.

This is an opportunity to combine hands‑on infrastructure engineering with technical consultancy across a range of complex customer environments.

As an OT Infrastructure Engineer / Consultant, you will:

• Design, build and configure VMware environments
• Build and configure physical and virtual server infrastructure
• Support Windows and Linux-based infrastructure platforms
• Support the hosting and deployment of OT and industrial applications
• Support application installation, configuration, integration and infrastructure readiness
• Undertake system, application and infrastructure testing and validation prior to deployment
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning and production go‑live activities
• Deliver infrastructure migrations, upgrades and refresh programmes
• Configure Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and supporting infrastructure services
• Implement resilient and highly available infrastructure for critical systems
• Support SAN, NAS and enterprise storage technologies
• Support backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions
• Undertake infrastructure health checks, troubleshooting and performance analysis
• Support server hardening, patching, vulnerability remediation and lifecycle management
• Produce HLDs, LLDs, build guides, test plans, validation evidence and as‑built documentation
• Work alongside OT, cyber security, network, application and engineering specialists
• Provide technical consultancy and guidance to clients

Requirements

You’ll bring strong hands‑on infrastructure engineering experience across physical and virtual server environments, with the capability to design, build and support resilient infrastructure platforms.

• Strong hands‑on experience with VMware
• Strong experience with Windows Server build, configuration and administration
• Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or equivalent Linux platforms
• Experience deploying physical and virtual server infrastructure
• Experience supporting application hosting and application infrastructure
• Experience with system testing, validation and acceptance activities
• Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP
• Experience with high availability, clustering and resilient infrastructure
• Experience with enterprise server hardware such as Dell, HPE or equivalent
• Experience with SAN, NAS and enterprise storage technologies
• Experience with backup, recovery and disaster recovery technologies
• Good understanding of networking, VLANs, firewalls and segmentation
• Experience with server hardening, patching and infrastructure lifecycle management
• Experience producing technical infrastructure, build and test documentation
• Strong technical troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
• Confidence working directly with clients and technical stakeholders

Experience within OT, industrial, energy, utilities or Critical National Infrastructure environments would be highly desirable.

Knowledge of IEC 62443, NCSC CAF or wider OT cyber security principles would also be advantageous.
