Job summary

Specialist Computer Centres PLC seeks an experienced OT Communications Engineer for a 6-month Warrington contract. Hybrid work, £400/day via Umbrella. Responsibilities include designing secure comms for legacy replacements, evaluating fibre/4G/5G/radio/satellite solutions, and ensuring OT cyber security compliance.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Proven OT, telemetry, or network project delivery experience.
• Knowledge of fibre, 4G/5G, radio, and IP communications.
• Familiar with PLC, SCADA, RTU, telemetry LAN/WAN.
• Understanding of OT cyber security and NIS compliance.
• Travel willingness; full UK driving license.
• Water industry experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site surveys and assess existing communications infrastructure.
• Analyse faults and ensure project requirements are correctly specified to support the effective operation of control and automation equipment.
• Develop project scopes, technical specifications, and communication solution designs.
• Evaluate and implement fibre, cellular (4G/5G), radio, and satellite communication technologies.
• Ensure compliance with NIS regulations, OT cyber security standards, and organisational requirements.
• Provide technical assurance of contractor and supplier deliverables.
• Support the migration of legacy communication systems to secure solutions.
• Manage technical risks and elevate issues appropriately.
• Support delivery against safety, time, cost, quality, and performance objectives.
• Produce and review technical documentation, reports, and asset records.
• Collaborate with OT, ICA, Cyber Security, Operations, and delivery partners.
• Act as the communications SME during technical reviews and stakeholder discussions.
• Ensure engineering outputs comply with Health & Safety, CDM, and standards.
• Act as PCW within the Work Authorisation Procedure.
• Work collaboratively across business functions to achieve successful project outcomes.

OT Communications Engineer - £400/day via Umbrella - 6 Month Contract - Warrington - Hybrid - SCC Flex Contract

We are seeking an experienced OT Communications Engineer to support a major Communications Replacement Project focused on delivering secure, resilient, and compliant communication solutions across operational assets. This is an excellent opportunity for an OT Communications Engineer with strong Operational Technology (OT), telemetry, and communications infrastructure experience to play a key role in modernising Legacy communications environments. The successful OT Communications Engineer will act as a technical SME, ensuring robust connectivity solutions are delivered while minimising cyber risk and maintaining operational reliability.

Your responsibilities as the OT Communications Engineer:

• Conduct site surveys and assess existing communications infrastructure.

As a successful OT Communications Engineer, you will have:

• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Telecommunications, Networking, or equivalent industry experience.
• Proven experience delivering OT, telemetry, communications, or network infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of fibre, cellular (4G/5G), radio, satellite, and IP-based communications technologies.
• Working knowledge of PLC, SCADA, RTU, telemetry, LAN, and WAN technologies.
• Understanding of OT cyber security, NIS compliance, and secure-by-design principles.
• Experience conducting site surveys, technical assessments, and feasibility studies.
• Asset Registration process experience.
• Ability to develop technical specifications and provide design assurance.
• Strong analytical, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
• Experience managing suppliers, contractors, and framework partners.
• Water industry experience is desirable.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
