Job description

Join a sme Defence & Government company as a OSINT Analyst in Manchester.

Open source intelligence has become central to modern defence and government operations, and the demand for analysts who can turn public data into usable insight keeps climbing. This established SME, based in Manchester, works across defence and government programmes where accurate, well-sourced intelligence genuinely shapes decisions. It's growing steadily rather than chasing headlines, which means the OSINT Analyst joining now gets real influence over how the function develops.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:
  • Collecting and analysing open source data across a range of defence and government-related targets and topics
  • Producing clear, well‑evidenced intelligence reports for internal stakeholders and external clients
  • Monitoring news, social media, forums and other open channels for relevant developments
  • Cross‑referencing findings against other intelligence sources to verify accuracy
  • Building and maintaining search methodologies and tools that improve collection efficiency
  • Briefing senior colleagues on emerging risks and trends identified through your research
Here are the skills you’ll need:
  • Proven experience in an OSINT Analyst or similar intelligence research role, ideally within defence, government or security settings
  • Strong grasp of OSINT tools, techniques and source verification methods
  • Excellent written English, with the ability to turn complex findings into a report a non‑specialist can follow
  • Sound judgement when handling sensitive information. Discretion isn’t optional here
  • Comfortable working to deadlines without cutting corners on rigour
  • Eligibility for UK security vetting (existing clearance is an advantage, not a requirement)
Key perks and benefits:
  • Salary of £38,000 to £49,500, plus a bonus scheme
  • Private medical insurance
  • Pension contribution
  • Generous annual leave with flexible working around core office hours
  • Office‑based role in Manchester, with a defined structure and genuine room to grow into more senior intelligence work
Why pursue a career in Defence & Government?

Defence and government work rewards precision, and it rarely stands still. Budgets are rising, threats are evolving, and organisations need analysts who can keep pace. Manchester has become a genuine hub for this kind of work outside London, and an OSINT Analyst based there sits close to a growing cluster of defence and government employers, with a clear path toward more senior intelligence roles over time.
