A healthcare provider is seeking an Orthotics professional for a short-term maternity cover role in Accrington. Job description

This is an incredible opportunity to work in an established Orthotics service across the ELHT footprint, covering a maternity leave. The post holder will be independently managing a caseload across multiple specialties which could include paediatrics, stroke, orthopedics and trauma. The post holder will contribute to the development of junior staff and also contribute to the training programme for wider colleagues, across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • carry a caseload of complex patients to include paediatrics, trauma, diabetic patients.
  • be responsible for the delivery of Orthotic clinical care to patient caseload including patient assessment and advice, devising treatment plans to facilitate patient goals and monitoring patients as required.
  • make judgements on the cost/benefits of the treatment you give based on the assessment you make.
  • take accurate measurements and castings and draft to ensure prescriptions are right first time.
  • be responsible for the safe provision of Orthotic equipment and specification of bespoke devices, ensuring all risks are minimised and documented appropriately.
  • Be responsible for ensuring prescription decisions are made within best clinical judgement in a cost effective manner to provide high quality, best value Orthotic clinical care.
  • Be responsible for referral and liaison other disciplines to provide optimum patient care. Recognising where alternative interventions may be appropriate.
  • Be Responsible for own safe use of workshop machinery and hand tools and for maintaining tool kit and equipment as required and reporting any faults.
  • Be responsible for the development and provision of the orthotic service to referred patients and their carers.

Job responsibilities

1. Undertake comprehensive specialist assessments, set patient centred goals, create treatment plans, monitor and evaluate a designated caseload of patients, using evidence based clinical pathways.

2. Independently maintain a clinical caseload and manage clinical risk, in a variety of settings including individually or in groups.

3. Formulate treatment plans and goals in partnership with the patient, clearly communicating your clinical reasoning to justify your recommendations and utilising most appropriate treatment/intervention.

4. To provide specialist clinical advice, support and educate patients and carers in the management of their condition.

5. Assess capacity and gain informed consent from patients for any intervention carried out. Complete mental health capacity forms as required.

6. Contribute to reviews involving multi-disciplinary and multi- agency staff, providing evidence-based expertise within your specialist area. The post holder may be required to take the key worker role.

7. Work across agencies as required and have a working knowledge and understanding of the systems within Health, Education and Social Services to facilitate appropriate treatment/interventions, equipment, access, and adaptation issues.

8. Postholder will participate in own supervision and supervise delegated staff in line with supervision policy.

9. Support junior staff, students and assistants with decision making and management of clinical risks as required.

10. Undertake training and development of junior staff, students and assistants.

11. Provide leadership, supervision, and support to junior staff in the team, including assistants and apprenticeship staff.

Qualifications
  • Profession specific Diploma/Degree
  • Registration with Health and Care Professions Council
  • Member of relevant professional body
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical field
  • Involvement in Special Clinical Interest Group
Experience
