NHS Scotland is seeking an experienced orthotic technician for a part-time position at the TORT Centre in Ninewells Hospital. The role involves fabricating and maintaining orthotic devices and requires a strong background in technical subject areas and safety standards.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced orthotic technician to join the Orthotic team based at the TORT Centre in Ninewells Hospital. The position is on a part time basis and fixed term for 6 months.
The orthotic technician works closely with the orthotist and is responsible for the fabrication, repair and maintenance of orthotic devices and the repair and surgical adaptation of footwear to the highest technical and clinical standards. They undertake the preparation, filling, and stripping of plaster of Paris body casts and models. In addition, the orthotic technician will carry out custom design and manufacture of specialised jigs, tooling and fixtures and will be highly competent in the use of specialised workshop machinery, tools and equipment.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate training or experience in orthotic device manufacture and technical design and manufacture. They will be highly experienced in the field of orthoses manufacture and have a good basic knowledge of gross human morphology, anatomy and biomechanics. Practical knowledge of contemporary techniques and fabrication methods is vital. An understanding of workshop Health and Safety and working within Quality Management Systems will be necessary for the role.
Competency will be demonstrated at interview through evidence of training, practical workplace experience and relevant qualification in a technical subject.
There will be an expectation that on occasion the Orthotic Technician will travel to Perth Royal Infirmary Orthotic Clinic to provide technical support, covering staff abscence and to attend meetings.
TORT Services include the Tayside Orthotic Service, the Assistive Technology Service (Wheelchair and Seating) and the Tayside Prosthetic Service. TORT through its constituent specialisations is committed to providing a prompt and clinically appropriate service to enhance the quality of life and independence of people with disabilities through the use of technology.

Hours of work are: 15.2 hours per week
