Orthoptist Advanced (Paediatric Lead) Band 7/Trainee, Band 7/Annex 21 Para 2 (i) - 1 post 37 hours

An opportunity has arisen to join the NHS Tayside Orthoptic Department as a Band 7 Advanced Paediatric Orthoptist. Within Paediatric Ophthalmology, you will work alongside Orthoptists, Paediatric Ophthalmologists, and Optometrists as part of the Paediatric Ophthalmology Team. You will provide advanced Orthoptic-led paediatric clinics, including JIA screening, and have a lead role within the functional vision assessment team for children with visual impairment, collaborating with Paediatricians and Education colleagues. You will also participate in general Orthoptic services within NHS Tayside for both adult and paediatric patients across various clinical locations throughout Tayside.

We seek an individual with extensive Orthoptic experience, excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to integrate into our team. The successful candidate will be supported to complete master’s level qualifications in paediatric ophthalmology. Our team values collaboration and recognizes the importance of a diverse skill set to deliver high-quality patient care.

Essential requirements include a diploma/degree in Orthoptics, significant postgraduate experience, and current HCPC registration. Part-time hours may be considered.

Candidates who do not meet the Advanced Orthoptist criteria are encouraged to apply for the trainee role. Support will be provided to undertake the necessary education and supervised practice to develop competence and confidence across the four pillars of advanced practice. It is expected that trainees will achieve the required qualifications within 18 to 24 months of appointment.
