About this role

The BSAG board has three committees, including ORENO (Organisation, Remuneration, and Nomination), which oversees the company's executive team, HR metrics, salary benchmarking, and board appointments. Responsibilities of the Chair of ORENO include:

  • Liaising with group board and committees
  • Planning and chairing ORENO meetings (three per year)
  • Updating on ORENO’s work and recommendations to group board meetings
  • Working with the CEO of BSAG and their team
  • Approving executive roles, appointments, salaries, targets, and metrics with ORENO
  • Ad hoc discussions, guidance, and decisions as required

Experience and skills

BSAG Board members are appointed based on experience and skills. The Chair of ORENO should be able to:

  • Demonstrate success in senior executive roles
  • Serve as a company director, trustee, or board/committee chair
  • Have experience in HR or managing people
  • Understand good governance

Beneficial experience includes:

  • Knowledge or experience in education, health education, inclusion, or safeguarding

Time commitment/remuneration

The Chair of ORENO attends three meetings annually (one in person) and three group board meetings (one in person), remunerated at £750 per day plus expenses. Additional meetings are similarly remunerated.
