Job description

Are you a motivated health promoter eager to address health inequalities? We are seeking an Oral Health Promoter to work in our Dental Service delivering oral health promotion advice and training to the population of Sussex.

The Oral Health Promotion team focuses on supporting and improving health outcomes for vulnerable communities in the county. We aim to meet key performance indicators by offering advice and support tailored to the community of Sussex, and provide training and support to other health, social, and childcare professionals in line with best practice guidelines. We are the sole provider implementing the supervised tooth brushing scheme in Sussex.

Interviews are expected to be held on 21st July. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to deliver a short presentation on: How I successfully implemented a change.

Please note: Due to recent changes in UK immigration and visa rules, this role is unlikely to be eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants without the right to work in the UK may not be considered. Candidates requiring sponsorship should review the eligibility criteria on the gov.uk website before applying to assess their eligibility for a Certificate of Sponsorship.

The Oral Health Promotion Team is part of SCFT's community Dental Services, offering specialized dental care for patients with additional needs, emergency out-of-hours services, and oral health education and promotion.

Our team, based at the Special Care Dental Clinic in Brighton, is a dedicated group of Oral Health Educators supported by administration staff. We work flexibly to support the OHP activities, fostering links and referrals into the dental service. We are supported by Brighton and Hove City Council and East and West Sussex County Councils, who commission our activities, and maintain strong links with public health colleagues.

The Oral Health Promoter supports the Team Lead in achieving contractual targets and activity to meet key performance indicators, as well as addressing the needs of Brighton & Hove residents. Under supervision, you will provide oral health care to vulnerable communities, develop resources, and implement oral health promotion activities. You will also promote good oral health practices and record and evaluate activities, providing training and advice to other health and social care professionals in Sussex.

We are the main provider of NHS community services across East and West Sussex, with 6,000 staff serving 1.3 million people. We deliver essential care to help manage health, prevent hospital admissions, and reduce hospital stays.

Our vision is to provide excellent care at the heart of the community. We offer opportunities across medical, clinical, support, and corporate services.

Why work for us?

  • Positive 2024 NHS Staff Survey results, highlighting compassionate leadership and wellbeing
  • Varied environments: community hospitals, patients' homes, and bases across Sussex

  • Cost-effective workplace nurseries in Crawley, Hove, and Brighton
  • Active networks: EMBRACE, Disability & Wellbeing, LGBTQIA+, and Religion & Belief
  • Level 3 Disability Confident Leader and Veteran Aware Trust

Our values: Compassionate Care, Working Together, Achieving Ambitions, Delivering Excellence guide our work.

We value diversity and encourage applications from all backgrounds, especially from ethnically diverse, disabled, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment and supporting reasonable adjustments during recruitment.
