Job summary

trg. is seeking two Oracle DBA contractors for a 12-month fixed term contract in Oxford. The role is hands-on, focused on on-premises Oracle RAC and BAU support.

Hybrid working with a minimum of 20% in the office and on-call duties after onboarding, plus enhanced rates for weekends/bank holidays and time off in lieu.

You will own RMAN backups, Data Guard configurations, patching in RAC, and recovery to new hosts as part of a critical national digital infrastructure program.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience administering on-premises Oracle RAC in production.
• Experience with RAC rolling patching in live environments.
• Direct experience with multitenant (CDB/PDB) architecture.
• Proven RMAN backup, restore and recovery ownership.
• Experience with Data Guard and standby databases/failover.

We're recruiting for two Oracle DBA contractors to join a small, focused database team working on critical national digital infrastructure. This is a genuinely hands-on, specialist role, not a generalist "cloud migration" position.

The team is mid-way through a major registry standardisation and modernisation programme. While the permanent team focuses on this, we need experienced Oracle DBAs to take full ownership of BAU support across the existing on-premises Oracle estate, and to become part of the on-call rota once familiar with the environment.

The role:

• Own day-to-day administration, support and troubleshooting of on-premises Oracle RAC environments
• Perform rolling patching across RAC clusters with minimal disruption
• Administer multitenant (CDB/PDB) database environments
• Take direct responsibility for RMAN backup, restore and recovery, including recovery onto a new host
• Support Data Guard configurations, including standby management and failover
• Diagnose and resolve production incidents, participating in an on-call rota once fully onboarded

What you need:

• Genuine, recent, hands-on experience administering on-premises Oracle RAC in a production environment. This must be current experience, not historical
• Practical experience with RAC rolling patching in a live environment
• Direct, recent experience with multitenant (CDB/PDB) architecture
• Proven ownership of RMAN backup, restore and recovery processes, including restoring to a new host
• Experience configuring and supporting Data Guard, including standby databases and failover scenarios
• Comfortable being part of an on-call rota supporting production incidents

Please note: this role requires specialist, current on-premises Oracle DBA depth rather than broad cloud or automation-focused experience. Candidates whose recent work has moved primarily into cloud migration, DevOps, or application-layer support may not be the right fit for this specific role.
