Optronics Research and Technology (R&T) Business Manager

Location: Reading, Bristol, or Crawley

Hybrid Working (Minimum 3 days at office)

The Opportunity:

Join Thales OME as a Business Development Manager, supporting electro-optic system development, assessing feasibility, and managing R&T projects from early research to prototypes. Focus areas include electro-optic sensors, imaging systems, optical design, algorithms, machine learning, and AI with a defence and security emphasis.

Responsibilities include identifying funding opportunities, liaising with R&T teams, exploring business opportunities with government, academia, and industry, and representing Thales at conferences.

About You:

Essential:

• At least 5 years in optronics research, development, or innovation
• Master’s degree in Physics, Electronics, Engineering, or related field
• Experience in Electro-Optic Sensors, with ML/AI
• Knowledge of UK defence/security industries and MoD
• Strong communication skills and ability to present clearly
• Self-starter with interest in funding approaches

Desirable:

• PhD in related fields
• Experience in Business Development/Sales
• Experience with UK Government and Universities

Security clearance: Full SC clearance or ability to obtain it is essential.
