Our engineering team is expanding, and we seek an Opto-Electrical Design Engineer to enhance our product development around our flow imaging microscopy platforms. The role focuses on developing new products and improving our current instrumentation suite.

The Opto-Electrical Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and will be supported by our experienced, diverse engineering team. The candidate should have at least 5 years of experience, with impeccable attention to detail and a focus on system design.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Optical design for microscopy using Zemax
  2. Illumination design for microscopy using Zemax
  3. Performance testing of optical systems
  4. Image processing

Education Level:

  • M.S. in a relevant engineering discipline with 10+ years of professional experience; PhD preferred.

Experience and Technical Requirements:

  • Product Design and Development Experience
    • Developing prototypes into commercial products
    • Design of experiments, verification, and validation procedures
    • Optical modeling/simulation, familiarity with ISO 10110, managing design iterations
  • Optical Design for Microscopy
    • Optical system and laser system design
    • Stray light analysis
    • Tolerance studies for manufacturability
  • Illumination System Design
    • Source & driver selection
    • Optical system design
  • Signal & Image Processing
    • Algorithm development in C/C++
    • Familiarity with FPGA is a plus
  • Teamwork, communication, organization, customer-focus, technical explanation skills, curiosity, and cross-functional work ability.
  • Experience in project leadership and designing laboratory instrumentation for research and process development.

Physical Requirements:

This role involves working in office, lab, and assembly environments, extensive computer use, communication with various stakeholders, and occasional work outside regular hours. Must be able to:

  • Work in an office environment
  • Use telecommunication tools
  • Work in labs and assembly environments
  • Lift instruments up to 50 lbs
