Position Summary
This role is key to driving revenue from optional tour experiences by developing a strong pricing and sales strategy. It supports both business growth and contractor earnings, requiring a balance between commercial success and long-term contractor income. Success will hinge on analytical skills, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Pricing Model Development: Create and implement a robust costing and pricing model for all optional experiences, considering factors such as direct costs, overheads, seasonality, and market competitiveness.
- Pricing Recommendations: Provide data-driven recommendations on price points for optional based on cost analysis, seasonality trends, and market research. Ensure pricing strategies maximize revenue while remaining attractive to guests.
- Sales Process Management: Develop and implement a clear and efficient model that outlines how contractors, specifically Travel Directors, are able to sell and report on optional experiences. This includes creating training materials, offering support for contractor-specific needs, and monitoring contractor performance.
- On-Road Sales Tool Implementation: Identify, evaluate, and implement new on-road sales tools to improve data collection and analysis related to optional sales. This may involve working with technology providers and internal IT teams.
- Reporting and Analysis: Develop and maintain regular reporting on optional sales performance, including revenue, participation rates, and profitability. Analyze data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with contracting, operations, product and marketing teams to ensure alignment on pricing strategies, sales processes, promotional activities and product offering.
- Continuous Improvement: Continuously review and refine pricing models, sales processes, and reporting tools to optimize revenue generation and enhance the guest experience.
- Cost and Spend Analysis: Track and report on any overspend across the contracting and operations departments related to optional and included activities. Identify areas for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience in costing and pricing within the travel industry – especially related to group and tour travel.
- Solid understanding of quote development, including sourcing and evaluating supplier costs.
- Knowledge of load factors and how to accurately break down package pricing per person.
- Commercially minded, with an understanding of the close relationship between procurement and pricing to maximize profitability.
- Skilled in competitor and market analysis to inform pricing strategies and positioning.
- Experience building and refining pricing models, ideally within a tour operating or travel environment.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with advanced Excel capabilities.
- Familiarity with on-road or in-destination sales tools is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of overland coaching tours and optional experiences is a plus.
- Commercially savvy and data-driven.
- A self-starter with strong communicator with excellent collaboration skills.
