The role of Trader Optimisation within SLMT Short Term Trading and Optimisation team is to profitably optimise SLMT’s global portfolio and market opportunities within the short term horizon (up to 3 years out).
Specifically, this role requires the applicant to:
- Profitably optimise the supply and sale commitments in the portfolio
- Perform economic modelling and risk analysis of the portfolio to achieve global optimisation and provide steer to the trading team to enhance portfolio value; identify and evaluate global opportunities through deal economics and structuring
- Manage long-term counterparty relationships, be accountable for long term contracts management and enable successful performance of these contracts; look to monetize options embedded in the contracts
- Provide steer on the pricing exposure in the portfolio and help management to make exposure management decisions
- Closely coordinate with Trading, Freight, Optimisation & Operations teams in Singapore, Dubai, London and Houston to plan, schedule and execute the global physical delivery program
- Actively participate in the structuring of LT deals to ensure they are flexible enough to allow for optimisation in the future by providing clear advice on operability of such contracts

The OT team operates out of Singapore, Dubai and London together with the Global LNG Trading team. SLMT is the largest global portfolio player in the industry with more than 50mtpa of LNG portfolio across more than 50 short- to long-term contracts and operate the largest LNG fleet in the world with 60+ ships.
Requirements
- Excellent analytical and financial skills, business acumen, and demonstrated achievements
- Highly numerate with an exceptionally high attention to detail – experience in mathematical modelling, optimisation or option valuation is highly desirable
- Candidate must be highly self-motivated, be able to critique and challenge and work well in a loosely structured environment, meet firm deadlines and be comfortable with ad hoc requests.
- Quick analysis of situations and problems, ability to balance and manage risks under severe time pressure with creative problem-solving skills
- Great communication and interpersonal skills, ability to distill complex problems into simple terms
- Ability to handle and digest large amount of information in a highly interactive environment
- Digitally savvy and keen to use digital means to improve effectiveness and efficiency in daily activities
- Sensitive to, respectful of and being adept at operating across different cultures
- Ability to manage both internal and external stakeholders effectively
- Commerciality is a key factor for success in this role
Additional Information
- Applicants with prior experience in oil, gas or LNG trading will be a plus subject to demonstration of required numeracy, commercial test
- Additional language capabilities may be advantageous for supporting selected major customers (in particular Spanish and Arabic).
- We adhere to the prevailing T&S Office Attendance policies and this role requires active office participation
- Some travelling and work outside of normal office hours will be needed due to the nature of the global business
