We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-orientedand motivated Optical Pluggable Transceiver NPI (New Product Introduction) Engineer to support the introduction of next-generation optical transceiver products into manufacturing. This role bridges R&D (Research and Development) and production, ensuring that new designs are manufacturable, testable, and meet performance and reliability standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optical communication technologies, product development, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Drive the NPI process for optical pluggable transceivers (e.g., QSFP-DD, OSFP, SFP-DD, etc.) from concept to volume production.
- Collaborate with design, test, and manufacturing teams to ensure DFM (Design for Manufacturability), DFT (Design for Test), DFR (Design for Reliability), DVT (Design verification) and QT (Qualification testing), are delivered to meet program milestones.
- Test stage ownership including methodologies, definition and verification. Produce test specification documents and support test team to deliver key hardware / software / GUI building blocks. Lead integration and verification of test solutions prior to release.
- Test data review, statistical analysis and results presentation in verification reports. Recommendations for design optimisations and yield improvements back into design team.
- Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure smooth production ramp-up.
- Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders during product launch
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum Level 5 UK qualification in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in optical transceiver development or NPI engineering.
- Knowledge of packaging technologies and materials for optical modules.
- Familiarity with high-speed PCB design, signal integrity, and thermal management.
- Knowledge of manufacturing test processes and yield analysis.
- Define and implement test strategies and automation for optical and electrical performance.
- Develop and execute validation and qualification plans for new products.
- Support regulatory and compliance testing (e.g. CE, UL, Telcordia, IEEE, RoHS, REACH).
- Experience with automated test systems and scripting (e.g., Python, C++, C#).
- Good understanding of signal integrity, eye diagrams, jitter analysis, and BER testing.
- Familiarity with reliability testing (e.g., HTOL, TC, HAST, vibration).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
- Analyse failure modes and mechanisms using tools such as FMEA, Weibull analysis, and root cause analysis (RCA). Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab, MATLAB).
- Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) tools and NPI processes.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, BOMs, and compliance reports, process flows, and engineering change orders (ECOs).
