Job summary

Zest Optical in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, is recruiting a full-time Optical Glazing Technician to join a modern laboratory serving UK Opticians. The role offers progression to senior positions, including Team Leader roles, within a leading optical lens manufacturer.

You will work with a large, experienced team, handle frame tracing, lens edging, and quality checks while meeting ISO and customer requirements. Training and career development are available.

Qualifications

• Prev. experience in an optical glazing laboratory.
• Experience with lens edging and glazing processes.
• Good understanding of optical lenses.
• Able to work accurately with prescriptions and order information.
• Highly organised with ability to prioritise workload.

Responsibilities

• Working within a modern optical glazing laboratory environment.
• Blocking lenses to customer requirements and edging lenses using manual edgers.
• Trace frames, transfer shapes and assemble frames for glazing.
• Verifying lenses using optical equipment and checking orders to ISO standards.
• Prioritising orders based on delivery timescales and coordinating with lab departments.
• Maintaining high quality standards and supporting colleagues in the glazing team.

Zest Optical are working alongside a leading optical lens manufacturer to recruit a full time Optical Glazing Technician into their modern glazing laboratory based in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire.

Optical Glazing Technician - Role

• Working within a modern optical glazing laboratory environment
• Part of a large, experienced team with opportunities to learn from others
• Tracing frames and transferring shapes ready for glazing
• Blocking lenses to customer requirements
• Edging lenses using manual edgers
• Assembly of metal, plastic, supra and rimless frames
• Working on bespoke and specialist frame orders
• Checking completed orders to ISO standards and customer requirements
• Verifying lenses using optical equipment
• Prioritising orders based on delivery timescales
• Working closely with different departments across the lab
• Maintaining excellent standards of quality and accuracy
• Supporting colleagues within the wider glazing team
• Working towards department targets and KPIs

Optical Glazing Technician - Requirements

• Previous experience working within an optical glazing laboratory
• Experience with lens edging and glazing processes
• Good understanding of optical lenses
• Confident using a manual focimeter including marking up lenses
• Good knowledge of frame tracing
• Excellent attention to detail
• Able to work accurately with prescriptions and order information
• Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload
• Able to work well as part of a team
• Motivated to develop and progress within a growing business

Optical Glazing Technician - Details

• Based in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire
• Easily commutable from Bristol, Yate, Bradley Stoke and surrounding areas
• Full time position
• Monday to Friday
• Rotating shifts: 6am to 2pm, 2pm to 10pm
• Shifts alternate weekly
• Excellent base salary plus shift allowance
• Quarterly bonus
