Job description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Ophthalmology Outpatient Team within the National Treatment Centre – Highlands (NTC-H).

The NTC-H is a new purpose-built facility on the Inverness Campus receiving all NHS Highland Ophthalmology patients as well as specific Orthopaedic patients who meet the criteria to be operated on within the NTC-H.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Nursing Assistant for the Ophthalmology Outpatients Department, NTC-H.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team. You will be required to assist registered nurses, medical staff, orthoptists, and optometrists in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care, with and without direct supervision, ensuring effective use of available resources and knowledge.

Ideally, you would already be working in a healthcare or ophthalmology setting with experience in measuring visual acuity, focimetry, visual fields, and OCT/ophthalmic imaging. However, training will be provided if you do not have this experience.

The successful candidate will need to work effectively and flexibly in a pressurized clinical environment. The department operates Monday to Friday, 08:00-18:00. Weekend and public holiday clinics are also held, and you may be expected to work 1 or 2 weekend shifts per month.

For informal enquiries, please contact Christina Lloyd, Senior Charge Nurse, OPD Department, via email at christina.lloyd2@nhs.scot.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Health and Care Worker visa. NHS Highland is unable to provide sponsorship or Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS).
